The London Fanshawe Symphonic Chorus Organization seeks a passionate, committed choral and orchestral conductor, responsible for all artistic decisions in the leadership role of this vibrant community organization.

About the Organization:

The London Fanshawe Symphonic Chorus is a non-profit “three-in-one” arts organization, comprised of Fanshawe Chorus London (one hundred voice mass choir),The Concert Players (twenty-five member orchestra) and The Gerald Fagan Singers chamber choir. The present conductor is internationally renowned Gerald Fagan, Order of Ontario.  The organization is entering its forty second year of operation.

The London Fanshawe Symphonic Chorus has a strong and proud affiliation with Fanshawe College and the College is one the organization’s most dedicated and supportive sponsors.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Select repertoire for concert season
  2. Audition and select new choir and orchestra members, as needed
  3. Select soloists, both local and international
  4. Conduct all rehearsals for ensembles and all concerts
  5. Work closely with the arts community of London
  6. Advocate for the organization in the community and beyond
  7. Connect with sponsors and funding sources on a personal level, strengthening the profile of   the organization and its artistic contributions to the community, the province and the country

Requirements of the Applicant:

  1. Completed Graduate Studies in Music
  2. Extensive experience in both choral and orchestral conducting
  3. Knowledge of vocal and instrumental technique and languages
  4. Ability to communicate musical ideas effectively
  5. Established reputation for excellence
  6. Inspiring individual who is accessible to sponsors and patrons  
  7. An active participant in the fund-raising initiatives of the organization

Compensation:

This is a contract position, renewable annually.

Selection Process:

Only those applicants chosen for a short list will be contacted and interviewed. The selection process will include a series of “guest conductors” throughout the 2012-2013 Concert Season in London, Ontario.  All final candidates will be asked to arrange a stay in London to rehearse and conduct one concert.  The final selection for Artistic Director will be determined at the end of this process to assume the position for the 2013-2014 Concert Season.
